10 Domiciliary Care Beds

Accepting: High Risk Offenders, SRR, Day Parole, LTSO, ETAs and UTAs and men diagnosed with mental health illness including mild depression and anxiety, concurrent disorders and addictions.

Primary Workers help to prepare residents for reintegration through the development of Residential Actions Plans and solid Discharge Plans, which focus on housing and financial supports. They facilitate referrals to doctors, mental health services, Aboriginal community services, outpatient addiction services et al., attend appointments with the residents acting as a liaison with community partners when necessary. In addition, they assist residents with obtaining government identification, employment, educational upgrading and volunteer opportunities and provide 1-1 mental health support and crisis intervention.

Monitoring Staff maintain the safety and security of the CRF and the public through video surveillance, physical and collateral checks, documentation of resident movement and vigilant reporting.

Personal Support Workers assist with the development of life skills through a chore and laundry program and also provide controlled medication supports and education.

The Red Seal Chef prepares three (3) meals and two (2) snacks a day in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.

Post Warrant Expiry Transitional Housing in our Domiciliary Care / ODSP program.

Description

Opened in 1996 and expanded several times, Murray's Windermere Gardens Community Residential Facility (MWG CRF) is a large structural home in the downtown area of Barrie, Ontario. The facility provides its male clients with the following services, in addition to housing: three (3) nutritious meals and snacks, laundry, security, access to recreational activities, access to education, employment and volunteer opportunities, referrals to community support networks, controlled medication distribution and education and 1-1 mental health support and crisis intervention.

Through partnerships with community agencies, men in transition may be offered permanent residency if they are unable to return to the public sector and meet the Provincial Domiciliary Care program criteria for admission.

Application Process

Applications for Regular Beds and Mental Health Beds can be requested via mail. They can also be sent via email to Institutional Parole Officers.

Offenders deciding to select Murray's Windermere Gardens CRF as a release destination should speak to their Institutional Parole Officer, who will initiate a Community Assessment (CA) request to the Barrie Parole Office.

MWG CRF will review applicants for residency based on a solid release plan, motivation to change, commitment to program compliance as well as potential risk to community and risk level for recidivism.

A Community Assessment Team which includes police, CRF and CSC staff screen referrals and meet monthly to review cases.

The Assistant Executive Director and CRF staff of Murray’s Windermere Gardens CRF visit the institutions upon written request from the offender to discuss future release plans.
