United Halfway Homes - McMillan Avenue

Description

McMillan House, situated at 739 McMillan, is a stand alone, Women Centred, halfway home that has been established in Winnipeg to create an environment that fully supports female parolees who are faced with a myriad of issues that arise from their status as women who have been in conflict with the law. McMillan House provides a warm, supportive, home like setting for the residents and is situated in a quiet residential area of Winnipeg.

McMillan House focuses on employment readiness as an important part of every resident's transition plan, but also acknowledges that women returning to their home communities have complex gender based issues that often make positive transition "a difficult road to walk". We know that the aftermath of childhood physical and/or sexual abuse leaves a high percentage of women coming out of prison vulnerable to relapse. We also know that many women have children in care and need support to gain the skills and confidence to assume their motherhood role. Based on this knowledge, McMillan House has been set up as a Gender Responsive therapeutic community that focuses on healing and growth. Our outreach and group services target:

- Education, Employment & life skills Training
- Peer Support
- Victim Awareness
- Family Relationships
- One to One Mentoring
- Spiritual Development
- Community Recreation
- Independence through housing support
