Description

The Westcoast Genesis Society is a non-profit agency established in New Westminster, BC in April 2000. The Society operates two facilities; Genesis House and Maria Keary Cottage. Maria Keary Cottage is a 35 bed facility; 15 beds are for offenders on a conditional release and 20 beds are for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our Mission is to actively promote the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being of persons who are socially marginalized–whether due to involvement with the criminal justice system, problematic substance use, emotional and mental health issues, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), homelessness or other factors.

The Agency offers a range of services to fulfill its mission. These include:

Residential services for adult male offenders on conditional release; Specialized services for offenders living with FASD; CSC Core and Other Correctional Programs; Transitional and supported housing for chronically homeless men

  • Beds 35
  • Population Adult Males
  • Age 19+
  • Exclusions Offenders with a history of sexual offending.
  • Criteria Potential CRF residents are assessed based on criminal history, progress against their correctional plan, previous release/institutional history and CMT support.

Application Process

Residents are screened during the Community Corrections Intervention Board. This involves a prior review of OMS file information, which is then presented and discussed. In-person or telephone interviews are often conducted in conjunction with the aforementioned.

Community Involvement

Westcoast Genesis Society, a non-profit charitable organization established and incorporated in 2000, is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors. Andrew Boyd is the founder and Executive Director. Mr. Boyd served as President of the New Westminster Downtown Residents Association (NWDRA) for several years and currently remains on the Board. He also co-chaired the New Westminster Homelessness Coalition for two years. The Coalition, with members from all levels of government and from local human service agencies, comes together to develop and implement effective strategies for meeting the needs of chronically homeless people in New Westminster. Boyd also serves as a member of the New Westminster Inter-Agency Council. He strives always to maintain positive relations with local neighbours, the broader community, elected officials and senior City staff.
